Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Andrew Kamanga, has received an endorsement in his bid to secure a seat on the FIFA Council, with the COSAFA Member Association Presidents pledging their full support for his candidacy.
The backing came after a meeting in Rabat, Morocco, on January 27, where the COSAFA President, Said Ali Said Athouman, announced the resolution to support Kamanga ahead of the March 12, 2025 FIFA Council elections in Cairo, Egypt.
Kamanga, who had recently passed the FIFA Integrity Test and met other requirements, was cleared by FIFA’s Review Committee to contest the election.
This endorsement from COSAFA, the Southern African football union, strengthens Kamanga’s position as he competes for one of the five CAF male seats on the FIFA Council.
The election, set to take place at CAF’s Extraordinary General Assembly, would see Africa selecting six representatives, including a female candidate for a reserved seat.
Kamanga would face 10 other candidates for the available five male seats.
Athouman highlighted the positive strides made by Kamanga under his leadership of the Zambian football federation, noting his contributions to CAF and FIFA.
“COSAFA recognises the achievements of Mr. Kamanga in Zambia and within the Southern African Zone,” Athouman said, reaffirming confidence in Kamanga’s candidacy.
