The final batch of Team Zambia athletes has arrived in Paris, France, with confidence and determination to win medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

Upon arrival at Charles de Gaulle Airport, swimmer Damien Shamambo expressed the team’s readiness and commitment to achieving success.

“We have done a lot of training leading up to this and we are more than ready to give it 100 percent on what we came here to do, which is to win or bring back the results that the country would like to see,” he declared.

Zambia’s Ambassador to France, Judith Mulenga, highlighted the significance of the Olympic games as a platform for promoting peace, security and stability, key pillars of Zambia’s foreign policy.

“There is nothing better than the Olympic games to promote peace, security and stability. We have over 200 nationalities competing and sports show that we are all equal. In sports, there is nothing about race because everybody is equal,” Mulenga explained.

Accompanied by Embassy Counsellor Chrissy Hilweele, Mulenga encouraged the athletes to aim for gold in various sports disciplines and assured them of the Mission’s support.

She also provided tips on basic French etiquette to make their stay in Paris seamless.

Earlier, Zambia National Athletics team head coach, Douglas Kalembo, expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness and anticipated success at the games.

“As Zambia Athletics, this year we have performed well and adequately prepared. As you know, we are number three in the world right now and we are here not just to participate but to compete and win medals,” Kalembo stated, thanking the government for its support.
