The Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO) is expected to spend US$4.5 million for this year’s crop purchase from the smallholder farmers.
This is more than the $4.1 million the company spent buying crops from farmers last year.
COMACO Communications Manager, George Sichinga, told Zambia Monitor in Lusaka on Thursday that the company remains committed to buying at premium price in line with its policy.
Sichinga said the company’s policy will benefit farmers totaling over 250,000 households in the Eastern , Muchinga, Central and Southern Provinces.

He said firm is particularly pleased to be one of the key companies in Zambia playing a role in helping to promote good nutrition and improved livelihoods by producing high value food products sold across Zambia under the brand “It’s Wild!”.
He said the products are all sourced from farmers who are helping to feed the nation while actively protecting the environment, 2,139 of whom were previously wildlife poachers but have taken up the plow instead of the gun.
