Coalition, UKA, dares Hichilema to test popularity by calling for early presidential election

United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) has dared President Hakainde Hichilema to call for early presidential elections this year ‘if he thinks he is popular’.

This came after Zambia Police in Kafue declined the Alliance’s request to organise a public rally, citing security concerns.

On April 2, 2024 UKA wrote to Zambia Police asking for permission to hold a public rally at Matanda Zambia compound grounds in Kafue on April 13, 2024, between 10:00 hours and 18:00 hours.

However, Zambia Police denied the Alliance’s request.

“I wish to advise that due to some security concerns, you are advised not to proceed with the intended rally,” police wrote to UKA.

“As the Alliance, we are not surprised at the response of the UPND Zambia Police force,” UKA, chairman, Sakwiba Sikota said.

Sikota claimed that Hichilema and his group would do anything to violate the rights of the Zambian people who don’t support their ineffective and short-lived government.

“UKA will not relent in liberating the Zambian people from this repressive UPND regime,” he added.

He further assured UPND’s government that they could not stop the people’s movement.
