The Civil Service Commission has announced the recruitment of an additional 329 volunteers who served during the 2023 cholera outbreak, following a presidential directive to employ them.
This recruitment would be part of the third phase of the employment initiative, which aims to integrate a total of 1,250 out of 3,094 cholera volunteers into the public service.
Commission Chairperson, Choolwe Beyani, announced the new phase at a media briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in Lusaka on Tuesday.

“The Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, adopted a phased approach to implement the presidential directive,” Beyani said.
He explained that the first phase involved the recruitment of 314 health workers, including 209 general workers and 120 health professionals, bringing the total number of cholera volunteers employed to 1,250.
Beyani noted that the delay in announcing the third phase was due to the need to wait for vacancies arising from natural attrition, such as retirements, promotions, transfers, deaths, resignations and separations.
He stated that the selected individuals were advised to collect their appointment letters from the Public Service Management Division (PSMD) offices in Lusaka starting Thursday, September 19, 2024.
Volunteers must present their National Registration Cards for identification purposes.
