Patriotic Front (PF) Information and Publicity Chairperson, Raphael Nakacinda, says the Church should not be cowed by politicians but instead should stand firm to offer guidance and corrective measures to the country.
Nakacinda was speaking on Sunday in Lusaka at the welcome and induction Church service of Reverend Patrick Mwanza as Moderator at Reformed Church in Zambia Ebenezer Congregation Miracle Centre in Chainda.
The PF Member of the Central Committee is also urging the church to whip politicians whenever seen taking the country in a wrong direction.
Nakacinda noted that the church should not be silent on matters happening in the country but speak out to offer guidance, especially that done by those charged with responsibility of leading.
He said it was unfortunate that when the church and its leaders offer guidance on matters they are called names and attacked by politicians.
“Even the fear of God amongst our people is beginning to deteriorate. Politicians have gone to an extent of crossing the limits…,” Nakacinda said.
He further said the church should not be destroyed by politicians due to their political interests and agendas.
“Just like it has been said during the time for preaching, none of us has the power to destroy the church. Jesus himself said ‘I will build the church and the gates of hell will not prevail’. So if the gates of hell cannot prevail, then who is a politician?” He has questioned.
“Whether you are President, a Minister or any position that you hold, you cannot succeed in destroying the church,” Nakacinda added.
He said if the country was to remain on the right track of development, the church should whip politicians whenever seen to be bringing division or making wrong decisions.
Nakacinda advised the church to keep check on politicians as if left without any guidance, society would be destroyed.
“So, we can only call on the church to occupy its rightful place and speak without compromise.” Nakacinda said.
Speaking earlier, Presbytery Moderator, Reverand Joshua Daka and the newly inducted Moderator at Reformed Church in Zambia Ebenezer Congregation, Reverand Mwanza, said the church appreciates the role politicians play in development and called for embracing of peace and unity for the good of the nation.
