Zambia has over the last 24 hours, recorded two confirmed new cases of cholera in Nakonde District of Muchinga Province, bringing the total number of cases to 15.
Acting Minister of Health, Douglas Syakalima, said so far, seven patients, had been discharged leaving eight in admission.
Syakalima gave an update on the Cholera situation in the country at a media briefing held at the Ministry on Tuesday, stating the the 8 patients were all in stable condition.
“I want to assure you that our teams are working tirelessly to contain this outbreak and protect our communities,” he said.
Syakalima restated that the Zambian government was intensifying efforts to address this outbreak.
He said the country had strengthened surveillance systems country-wide, deployed rapid response teams to Nakonde, and enhanced water quality monitoring in affected and at-risk areas by providing clean water using water bowsers.

He added that door to door sensitization, meeting with religious leaders, engagement with bus drivers on preventive measures as they drive outside the district as well as food and premise inspection for compliance has been enhanced.
“It is for this reason why we have been here to inspect public places especially those where our people congregate while moving from one place to another,” Syakalima said.
The minister also called on community leaders, health workers, and media outlets to continue raising awareness about cholera prevention.
Syakalims emphasized that Cholera was a preventable and treatable disease, and that with their cooperation, the country can minimize its impact.
