About 321 students have been selected to be sponsored under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in Chisamba district.

This is from the CDF allocation for the year 2023 under the skills development bursary amounting to more than K3 million.

Council Public Relations Officer, Nakubiana Shabongo said the committee received 362 applications from various candidates under the skills development bursary but the committee only settled for 321.

“Out of the 362 applications 32 students were unsuccessful while 4 students withdrew. The 37 were left out on account of failing to meet eligibility criteria as provided for in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) guidelines.

“Some of the reasons include lack of acceptance letters, application of courses that are not skills,” Shabongo said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

She said the list of successful applicants had since been pushed to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for final approval.

“The list is available at the Chisamba Town Council (CTC) and the local authority will give further official communication to all students once ministerial approval is finalised,” Shabongo said.

The Council, she said, urged all the successful students being considered for sponsorship out of the 362 to fully utilise the opportunities being provided by the government in an effort to improve their lives.

Shabongo encouraged others to take advantage of the opportunity the government was providing to empower the youth through the development of skills in different constituencies around the country.

“Further the local authority is a public office and all those having challenges with applying or understanding the CDF guidelines to feel free to visit the local authority for guidance and assistance.

“Government remains committed towards its agenda to develop skills under CDF in order to ensure structural transformation and labour productivity,” she said.
