With just five days before hosting Ivory Coast at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, the Chipolopolo boys have ramped up preparations at their serene Johannesburg base.
Coach Avram Grant and his team have put in a weeklong shift in the tranquil environs of Sturrock Park Stadium at Wits University.
The team will fly into Ndola on Tuesday for the final stretch of the preparations as they chase their Africa Cup of Nations qualification dream.
China based defender, Stoppila Sunzu, will link up with the squad in Ndola while Tanzania domiciled Kennedy Musonda will also jet out to the Copperbelt after his cup match Monday.
Only Canada based defender, Aime Mabika’s presence remains in doubt as he clears out personal issues after his clearance to play for the Chipolopolo.
Zambia plays Ivory Coast on Saturday in Ndola in a Group H Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Chipolopolo are in second place on nine points, behind already qualified Ivory Coast.
Football Association of Zambia president, Andrew Kamanga, said the team has had a weeklong retreat-like camp in South Africa on the recommendation of the technical bench.
“Part of the motivation of the choice of camp was the ease for foreign based players coming from their bases to join without distractions,” he said.
Kamanga said it has worked perfectly well as almost everyone reported on day one of the camp and has been focused on the job at hand.
