Chipangali Town Council in Eastern Province has received K4.7 million to pay individuals who participated in the government’s Cash for Work programme across various parts of the district.
Council Chairperson, Maxson Nkhoma, confirmed the development in an interview with Zambia Monitor on Saturday, stating that payments would be prioritised based on a first-come, first-served basis.
Nkhoma said individuals who worked as far back as October 2023 and have not yet received their dues would be given priority.
“This will enable residents in the district to purchase essential household items during these tough economic times,” he said.
He reassured beneficiaries that his office was working tirelessly to ensure all eligible participants would be paid as government funding continues to be disbursed.
Nkhoma stressed that transparency and fairness would guide the payment process.

“The initiative to provide financial assistance to households is a welcome relief, especially when making ends meet has become increasingly difficult,” he added.
He further praised government’s commitment to addressing the needs of citizens during economic hardship.
“It’s reassuring to know that efforts are underway to ensure everyone enrolled in the programme receives what is due to them,” Nkhoma said.
He added that even those who may not be paid under the current allocation should take comfort in government’s assurance that further measures would be taken to resolve any outstanding issues.
