Chingola pregnant woman reportedly raped by stepbrother

A six month pregnant woman of Chingola has been raped by her stepbrother, Benson Nyirenda, 29 while sleeping in her bedroom.

As a result of the attack, the victim sustained painful private parts, stomach pains, and a painful neck.

Brief facts of the matter are that the victim, who is six months pregnant, was sleeping in her bedroom at her parents’ house alongside her three-year-old daughter.

At the time of the incident, police said her father was at work, and her stepmother was at the market conducting business.

While sleeping, the victim felt someone touching her and woke up to discover that it was her stepbrother Nyirenda who quickly got on top of her, grabbed her by the neck, and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

Despite her struggles and screams for help, no one came to her immediate aid.

Copperbelt Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, narrated in a statement on Saturday that the victim’s three-year-old daughter, awakened by the commotion, started crying and ran outside.

This alerted a neighbour, who rushed inside the bedroom and found the suspect still in the act.

“Realizing that people had come to assist the victim, the suspect fled the scene,” Mweemba said.

The victim was admitted to Nchanga North General Hospital.

He disclosed that her father successfully apprehended the suspect at Ben Farms in Chingola District, where he had gone into hiding and that the suspect was currently in detention.
