Chingola man arrested for hacking friend over beer dispute

Police in Chingola have arrested 28-year-old Staywell Kasongo for unlawful injury after he hacked his friend, Chiputa Vincent, 40, on the toe with an axe following a dispute over beer.

According to Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba, the altercation occurred when the two friends went to collect K70 from a woman identified as Bana Amos, who had rented an axe from Kasongo.

Upon arrival, the woman claimed she had no money but instead offered beer as compensation.

While Kasongo refused, his friend Vincent was interested, leading to an argument that escalated into a physical fight.

During the scuffle, Kasongo grabbed an axe and struck Vincent on the big toe of his left foot, causing a deep wound.

he victim was rushed to Nchanga North General Hospital, where he is currently admitted in stable condition.

Following the attack, Kasongo attempted to flee but was apprehended by members of the public and handed over to Luano Kapisha Police Post, where he is now detained.

Police have since launched further investigations into the incident.
