China Railways Engineering Corporation has commenced preparations for the construction of facilities for the Nakonde One Stop Border Post.

Zambia Revenue Authority Acting Assistant Commissioner, Chindongwe Chimuka, announced that the Chinese firm was expected to complete the first phase of the One Stop Border Post by September this year.

During a tour of the Nakonde One Stop Border Post, Technology and Science Minister, Felix Mutati, noted that the first phase of construction was funded by Trade Mark East Africa, while the second phase would be financed by the World Bank.

Chimuka stated that the second phase of construction was set to begin in September this year and was expected to be completed by 2025.

“The current facilities are inadequate for the One Stop Border Post as they do not support its full operations,” he said.

Chimuka highlighted that the new construction would include a truck yard, a scanner, and customs facilities.

Mutati said the transformation of the Nakonde One Stop Border Post would enhance efficiency and facilitate trade.

He added that new gadgets would be installed to monitor and control operations.

“Government aims to ensure that the Nakonde Border Post also boosts its revenue collection,” Mutati stated.
