Chinese association reportedly donates K1 million in flood relief to Zambia

Relief items worth K1 million has reportedly been donated by Zambia Chinese Association (ZCA) to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to support communities affected by recent floods.

The donation included mealie-meal, rice, cooking oil, mattresses, and disinfectants, among other things, along with an additional K200,000 to facilitate logistics for reconstruction efforts of flood affected areas.

The donation was officially handed over by the Zambia Chinese Association president, Zhang Jian, and received by Vice president Mutale Nalumango on Monday in Lusaka.

At the handover ceremony, Nalumango expressed her gratitude for China’s continued support, emphasizing the strong 60-year friendship between the two nations.

She described the donation as a selfless and timely gesture and directed DMMU to ensure its swift distribution to the people in urgent need.

At the same event, Jian stated that the donated items were carefully prepared based on DMMU’s outlined disaster relief needs, ensuring they effectively address the critical requirements of affected communities.

Jian has reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting Zambia during challenging times.

“The association remains committed to supporting Zambia’s development and humanitarian needs,” he stated.
