Chingola Municipal Council’s Assistant Public Relations Manager, Evelyn Mulenga, has said several bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages from illegal shebeens have been confiscated.
This was after a raid on illegal beer outlets commonly known as shebeens that were being run in homes.
Mulenga said in a statement in Kitwe on Thursday that the local authority was concerned with the mushrooming of shebeens in homes .

She warned that the local authority will continue ‘pouncing’ on businesses perpetrating illegal activities in the district.
“A combined team of health inspectors, council and state police seized the beers during a shebeen control operation in several households in Maiteneke area,” Mulenga said.
She insisted that the selling of liquor without a license and selling of alcohol in residential areas was illegal according to the Liquor Licensing Act of 2011.
Mulenga cautioned members of the public against turning homes into bars or patronizing shebeens as anyone found wanting would be prosecuted.
