Kyombela said the bars were operating beyond permitted hours, while the 13 shebeens were offering liquor to the general public illegally.

“The exercise was in line with the Liquor Licensing Act in which the local authority patrolled to ascertain compliance of liquor businesses,” she said.

Kyombela said this was aimed at ensuring that business owners operate within the permitted hours and also to curb the increase of unlicensed liquor business operations.

She urged people operating in the liquor business to adhere to the law by obtaining permits and operate within the permitted hours or be penalised and have their licenses revoked.
