Chililabombwe Municipal Council municipal has closed nine shebeens and seized 102 cases of assorted beers after conducting the liquor patrols in the townships.
Bar owners faced the wrath of the law for not adhering to the liquor licensing Act.
Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Nambela Kyombela said the local authority through the department of public health was currently conducting the liquor patrol programme aimed at controlling the increasing number of illegal liquor premises.

Kyombela said during the exercise from February 8 to date a total of nine shebeens had been closed and 102 cases of assorted beers seized pursuant to the provisions of the Liquor Licensing Act .
She said members of the public that had a tendency of selling liquor in undesignated premises and houses should desist from such vices and any distributor or manufacturer found wanting would be penalized or prosecuted.
“We further urge the general public to report any illegal sale of liquor within the district to the local authority,”Kyombela said.
