Opposition New Congress Party has accused government of building a dossier of cases against the Patriotic Front (PF) candidates meant to scandalise whoever seems to have potential to emerge winner of the party’s president.

Congress Party president Peter Chanda therefore warned the PF to be careful not to fall into the trap that the UPND had set to insure that PF went into oblivion like all other former ruling parties.

He was reacting to the accusations that were made by UPND member Oliver Shalala, against PF presidential aspirant Brian Mundubile that his companies got contracts under the previous administration to supply government with goods and services without him declaring interest.

But Chanda said the scandal that the UPND member was talking about was part of the scheme to scandalise all PF presidential aspirants and bring confusion into the party.

He said UPND was well aware that Zambians no longer trusted them and they thought the only way they could avoid eviction in 2026 was to sponsor confusion in the strongest opposition political party available.

“But unfortunately the people are fade up with and they will make sure UPND is kicked out with or without the PF in the picture,” he said in an interview in Lusaka on Wednesday.

Chanda said the PF needed to be united more than ever if they could overcome this ploy by the UPND and never let few individual disturb the momentum that they had gained.

The UPND, he said, should concentrate on fulling the numerous promises they made to the people because that the only way they could redeem themselves from losing 2026.

He said people were tired of having a government that derived pleasure in punishing its own citizens to remain in the good books of the western world.

Chanda alleged that Zambians had suffered economic hardships, high cost of living, shortage of drugs in hospitals and disturbed agriculture sector.
