Peter Chabu, a former challenger in the University of Zambia Student Union (UNZASU) 2024/2025 elections, has withdrawn his insistence on a vote recount just a day before a scheduled recount.
Chabu, who had previously disputed the validity of the election and alleged vote tampering, unexpectedly admitted defeat during a meeting with his opponent, Dixon Matambo, known as the Governor at the University in Lusaka on Thursday.
Chabu’s concession marked a notable shift in his stance, though his reasons for dropping the challenge remained unclear.

In a gesture of respect, Chabu acknowledged Matambo as the sole president.
“There is one president at the University of Zambia, and that is Dixon Matambo,” Chabu said.
He further praised Matambo’s campaign slogan, describing it as “powerful” and asked how it was developed.
Matambo, widely known as “Governor,” congratulated Chabu for making what he described as a “bold decision.”
Addressing students, Matambo reassured them that exam participation would not be hindered by Continuous Assessment (CA) points.
“Each one of you is going to write the exams,” he assured, reinforcing his commitment to student inclusivity.
