Citizens First (CF) Party president, Harry Kalaba, has called on opposition leaders to resist intimidation and oppression under the New Dawn Administration, led by the United Party for National Development (UPND).
Speaking in Lusaka on Monday after visiting detained National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, Saboi Imboela, at Kabwata Police, Kalaba urged his colleagues in the opposition to remain resilient and determined despite the challenges posed by the current government.
Kalaba stated the importance of unity among opposition leaders and encouraged them to stay strong in their political journey, with a vision of a better future for Zambia.
“I also want to urge Zambians to stand together against adversity and work towards a brighter future for Zambia, refusing to be intimidated by the UPND government,” Kalaba said.
He expressed concern that Zambia had turned into a police state under the UPND regime, warning that no opposition leader or citizen was safe from persecution.
“What is happening now in Zambia, clearly we are in a Police State. Look we are even surrounded by the Police, this is not what we knew. This is not correct. We will never be intimidated,” Kalaba said.
He stressed the need to remain committed to fighting for a better Zambia, free from police brutality and oppression.
“This is a journey we have chosen. Today it’s Saboi Imboela and Fred M’membe; tomorrow, it could be Harry Kalaba or anyone else. We must all remain strong and united to bring about positive change for the people,” Kalaba declared.
Imboela was arrested after a warrant was issued by the Lusaka Magistrate Sylvia Munyinya, in connection with charges of libel against her.
