CDC Zambia pushes for communication budget increases to support development goals

The Centre for Development Communication (CDC) Zambia has urged the government to allocate sufficient funds for communication programmes in the 2025 National Budget.

CDC Advisor for Communication, Fredrick Mubanga, stated that a well-funded communication system was essential to support the implementation of government initiatives and ensure the public was well informed about the country’s development trajectory.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Mubanga noted that historically, funding for communication programmes within government budgets had been limited.

“Inadequate resources have significantly hindered the implementation of vital communication programmes aimed at promoting public awareness of various government development efforts across all sectors,” Mubanga stated.

He further stressed the importance of prioritizing communication funding in the 2025 National Budget to ensure that government ministries and agencies can effectively highlight progress made in implementing the Eighth National Development Plan.

“All government ministries and agencies should allocate a portion of their budget specifically for communication activities and programmes, to create a more informed and engaged citizenry on national development issues,” Mubanga added.
