Chipata Catholic Diocese Bishop, George Lungu, has called for more humanitarian aid to the survivors of the Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Malawi.

The southern part of Malawi that covers at least three Catholic dioceses has been hit by the Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which left over 250 people dead and property destroyed.

The Bishop said it was important for the financial and support for the victims of the Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Malawi.

In a statement issued by the Diocesan Communication Office on Friday, Bishop Lungu stated that Chipata Diocese recognised the problems the people were facing in Malawi due to the Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

“I am calling for financial and material support for the victims of the cyclone,” he said.

In showing solidarity with people of Malawi, Bishop Lungu appealed to all the Christians and people of good will to donate something in form of money and material support like clothes, shoes, beddings, mealie meal and other usable items.

He said the donations would be done in the parishes.

“Others can bring the donation to the Bishop’s Secretary Father Andrew Pumula Phiri. If the secretary is unavailable, the donations can be taken to the Treasurer General Father Bernard Makadani Zulu,” he said.

He further asked for prayers to the cyclone victims.
