Congolese side Diables Noirs have given FC MUZA a mountain to climb after beating Zambia’s CAF Confederations Cup envoys 2-1 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

The Congolese side struck twice in either half to inflict a first leg defeat on the Zambians.

FC MUZA pulled one back in the dying minutes of the half but in the end it proved to be too little too late.

The result means the Zambians will have to score two unanswered goals to progress to the next round of the competition when the teams square off in Congo in a fortnight’s time.

Diables Noirs opened the scoring in the 14th minute through an Albert Fataki goal.

The home team pushed for an equaliser before half time but to no avail.

The Mazabuka outfit continued to press for an equaliser in the second stanza.

The half time change of
Chipo Sondashi coming on for Emmanuel Manda almost paid off but the substitute’s free kick was saved in the 48th minute.

Andrew Phiri came close to an equaliser in the 65th minute but his effort struck the post.

As FC MUZA were pushing for an equaliser, they were dealt a hammer blow after Diables Noirs’ substitute Alves Ngakosso-Oko doubled the score for the visitors.

It looked like the Congolese side will maintain a clean sheet but Phiri’s efforts finally paid off when he scored in the 88th minute.

It, however, proved to be a consolation with the visitors heading back home with a narrow advantage.
