The Zambian Cabinet has approved the National Policy for Persons with Disabilities, a move aimed at promoting equality, non-discrimination, accessibility, health, education, and employment for persons with disabilities.
The policy is expected to enhance interventions that improve the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities across the country.
The decision was made during the third Cabinet meeting of 2025, held on Tuesday, February 11, and chaired by President Hakainde Hichilema.
According to the government, the policy provides a comprehensive framework to guide stakeholders on disability-related matters while fostering inclusion and empowerment.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Angela Kawandami, described the approval as a major milestone for social inclusion.
She added that implementing the policy would require collaboration with various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, the private sector, and local communities.
“The Ministry is committed to ensuring the effective and efficient implementation of the policy to improve the socio-economic development of persons with disabilities across the country, in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of an all-inclusive social protection system,” Kawandami stated.
