Police in Lusaka have arrested Chiengi Independent Member of Parliament, Given Katuta, and charged her with the offence of threatening violence.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said Katuta was formally arrested and charged with the offence of threatening violence at Emmasdale Station on Monday.
Hamoonga said this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday.
“Brief facts of the matter are that Katuta was ordered by the Speaker of the National Assembly after being suspended from the house for one week and assaulting the journalist who was taking photos of her as she was walking out,” he said.

Hamoonga said this irritated her and she started screaming at the journalist, spat in his face, manhandled him with the help of other members of Parliament and forced him to delete the pictures.
“This occurred on July 21, 2023 at Parliament building around 09:00 hours,” he said.
Hamoonga said Katuta had since been released on police bond and would appear in court soon.
