The police in North-Western province of Mwinulunga district have reported a case of suicide involving a 17-year-old boy.

The boy reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself after his mother rebuked him for absconding from school.

North-Western Police Chief, Dennis Moola, said in a statement on Sunday that Loveness Ketali, 47, the mother to the deceased reported that her son committed suicide by hanging himself using a fibre.

Available reports say that the victim’s mother on the material day had expressed concern over her son’s failure to attend school.

She then rebuked him by questioning why he had not been attending classes, an action that prompted her son to leave home without telling anyone where he was going. The report added that the mother was later alerted by the victim’s young sister that his brother was threatening to kill himself.

According to the police, the victim’s mother was to later find the son on the ground behind an anthill with a fibre around his neck.

The victim was rushed to Mwinilunga district hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
