Zambian musician, Yo-Maps has found himself at the center of controversy following a bizarre incident at his residence in Lusaka’s Lilayi area on Wednesday night.
Unknown individuals dropped off bags of mealie meal and live chickens, seemingly as a gesture of appreciation for his contributions during the funeral of late artiste, Dandy Krazy.
The unusual donation quickly sparked a scramble among onlookers, with many rushing to collect the goods.
A viral video of the event triggered mixed reactions on social media, prompting both praise and criticism.
In response to the chaotic scene, Yo-Maps took swift action, reportedly purchasing 100 bags of mealie meal to distribute to the people in his neighborhood the following morning.
The incident drew support from fellow musicians, including rapper Macky2, who offered words of encouragement.

On social media, Macky2 advised Yo-Maps to remain focused on his goals and rise above the negativity surrounding the situation.
“Hey Young King, Ignore All This And Stay Focused On Your Goals,” he wrote. “Please Don’t Waste Any More Time And Energy On This.”
Macky2 also emphasized the need for respect toward the family of the late King Dandy, calling for an end to the circus-like behavior and the “attention-seeking” actions during the funeral.
“Respect His Family And Let That Man Rest In Peace,” he added.
In his own response, Yo-Maps reflected on the troubling incident, noting that the rush to loot highlighted the deep needs within the community.
He acknowledged the desperation, particularly among students involved in the event, and took the opportunity to extend a helping hand.
“We recently witnessed a troubling incident where a rush to loot took place, and it made us realize that there is a deep need within our community—especially among the students who were involved.
“We understood that their actions were driven by a sense of desperation, and we felt compelled to act in order to provide some relief,” Yo-Maps shared.
Adding to the conversation, rapper Bobby East weighed in with a post expressing his dismay at how the King Dandy’s death and funeral had been turned into a spectacle.
He condemned the circus-like behavior, urging reflection and kindness during such a solemn occasion.
Bobby East also expressed support for the community, stating, “I hope we can all reflect and do better next time… it’s very un-African and not kind at all.”
In response to the incident, Yo-Maps, along with his team, decided to donate 100 bags of mealie meal to the students involved, not as an endorsement of the behavior but as a gesture of community support during a time of need.
“We are committed to doing our part in uplifting and supporting our community, and we encourage others to join in and make a positive difference where they can,” Yo-Maps stated in a post, emphasizing the importance of kindness and unity during difficult times.
The incident had sparked significant discussion on social media, with many reflecting on the challenges facing Zambia’s youth and the importance of addressing the underlying issues within the community.
