Lucas Bergvall’s late strike secured Tottenham a narrow 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The game, overshadowed by an early injury to Rodrigo Bentancur, saw the midfielder collapse within the opening minutes.

After a subdued first half, the match gained momentum in the second.

The Independent stated that Trent Alexander-Arnold, introduced as a substitute, had a shot cleared off the line, while Dominic Solanke’s goal was disallowed by VAR for offside.

With the game seemingly destined for a draw, Solanke delivered a pinpoint pass to Bergvall, who scored his first senior goal for Spurs, giving the hosts a crucial edge heading into the second leg at Anfield.
