Hackers have taken over the Facebook page of the Bank of Zambia (BoZ), forcing the Central Bank to conduct a thorough review of the incidence.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Central Bank indicated that it was making all efforts to ensure the page was restored.

It said through its Assistant Director for Communication, Besnart Mwanza, that it had engaged the law enforcement agencies to address the issue.

Mwanza has, therefore, sent a red alert to members of the public not to interact with the affected page until further notice.

“The Bank of Zambia regrets to inform members of the public of a cyber security incident affecting the bank’s Facebook page.

“We are conducting a thorough review of the incidence and working closely with law enforcement to ensure it is addressed. The bank is making every effort to ensure that the platform is restored to full functionality as soon as possible,” Mwanza said.

She urged members of the public to use other platforms such as twitter and LinkedIn for communications with the bank.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused,” Mwanza stated.
