APC leader, Msoni, joins Tonse Alliance, blasts ruling UPND government

All People’s Congress (APC) president, Nason Msoni, has joined the Tonse Alliance, calling it the only viable alternative for Zambians ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Msoni previously backed the United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance in the 2021 elections, which brought President Hakainde Hichilema to power.

However, he later broke ties with the ruling party, becoming one of its fiercest critics.

“The Tonse Grand Alliance is the only promising alternative for Zambians, unlike the deceitful UPND government, which made many promises but has delivered nothing but poverty, injustices, and lies,” Msoni said in a statement on Wednesday.

He questioned how UPND could expect re-election when poverty levels had worsened under its administration.

“There is no way President Hichilema can win when people are sleeping on empty stomachs, hospitals lack medicine, and police brutality against citizens has escalated,” he said.

Msoni warned that the UPND was facing an inevitable political “tsunami” due to its economic failures.

“UPND and President Hichilema are finished politically. They have impoverished and suffocated our people. Even dogs can’t bark anymore because of hunger,” he said.

He also accused Hichilema of prioritizing personal status over national concerns.

“President Hichilema has lost touch with reality by insisting on being addressed strictly as ‘Mr. President.’ He is more focused on personal aggrandizement and massaging his ego while citizens suffer,” Msoni added.
