Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Prosecutor, Daniel Ngwira, has confirmed to the Lusaka Magistrate Court that former Defence Minister, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, who was issued with a bench warrant was hospitalised.

Ngwira on Thursday, told Magistrate Stanford Ngobola, that a compelling investigation conducted by an ACC officer on Wednesday revealed that Mwamba known as GBM was admitted to Lusaka’s Medlands Hospital.

He told the court that the said officer also spoke to the Doctor who confirmed the accused’s illness.

Ngwira, thus, told the Court that the bench warrant could not be executed because the accused was hospitalised.

Magistrate Ngobola in response said he could not revoke the bench warrant because the law required that GBM appeared before Court.

He was summoned to appear before the court on May 15, 2024, to account for his absence and chart the course ahead.

GBM is charged with 24 counts of conflict of interest, money laundering and being in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
