The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested Katombola Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee Chairperson, Sophia Jani, for alleged corruption involving K190,000.

Jani, 46, of Simango Village in Kazungula, was charged with one count of failure to disclose interest, contrary to Section 5(5) Subparagraph (1)(2) and (3) of the Constituency Development Fund Act No. 11 of 2018.

ACC Senior Corporate Communications Officer, Dr Dorothy Muzumala, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday.

According to Muzumala, Jani failed to declare her interest in a CDF Committee meeting held on June 19, 2023, in Kazungula District, Southern Province.

She then participated in deliberations that led to the awarding of a K190,000 empowerment loan to her company, Mwabonwa Culture Experience, in a matter involving the Kazungula Town Council.

“Further, the Commission has arrested a Livingstone resident for corruption involving forgery and uttering a false document,” Muzumala added.

Nyambe Sakubita, 45, of Plot No. 2498 Kafue Road in Nottie Broad, Livingstone, was arrested and charged with one count of forgery and one count of uttering a false document, contrary to the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Sakubita is alleged to have, between January 1, 2022, and October 31, 2022, altered an official Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) document with intent to deceive and further presented the falsified document as genuine.

“Ms. Jani and Mr. Sakubita have been granted bond and are scheduled to appear before the Livingstone Subordinate Court soon,” Muzumala said.
