The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged, Azan Mungala, a Headteacher at Masaiti Secondary School for corrupt practices involving over K1.7 million.
ACC Head, Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono explained that Mungala, 52, on unknown dates in 2016, wilfully failed to follow the procurement guidelines relating to authorization of payments totalling K1,787,273.00, a transaction involving the Ministry of Education, a public body.
Furthermore, Moono said the Commission arrested and charged a Fisheries and Livestock Officer in Mazabuka, Oniver Mazoka, 41, in Choma, with eight counts of obtaining goods involving more than K7,500.00 by false pretence contrary to section 309 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
“Particulars of the offence in the 8 counts are that, Mazoka on dates unknown but between October 8, 2022 and October 27, 2022, in Mazabuka District of Southern Province by false pretense and with intent to defraud, did obtain different amounts of money amounting to K7,650.00 from various individuals on behalf of farmers of Mugoto Settlement area of Mazabuka, by purporting that it was for mapping or demarcating of their village when in fact not,” he explained.
He added that the two suspects were released on bond and would later appear in court.
