Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president, Edith Nawakwi, has missed another court appearance due to ongoing health problems, leading to a further adjournment of her trial.

Nawakwi, who is facing charges of abducting and threatening to kill Pheluna and Milton Hatembo, was expected to appear for the continuation of trial but remained absent.

She allegedly held the Hatembos against their will between August 31, 2021, and September 1, 2022, and threatened to behead them if they disclosed details of their discussions with her.

Her absence followed a previous adjournment in January when she was reportedly hospitalized at the University Teaching Hospital.

With her continued illness preventing court proceedings, Magistrate Masoja has now rescheduled the case to March 17, 2025.

Nawakwi is facing four counts of threatening violence under Section 90(a) of the Penal Code and charges of kidnapping or abduction with intent to confine under Section 256 of the Penal Code.
