Again, 2 illegal miners perish in Chingola mine accident

Police have disclosed that two suspected illegal miners in Chingola District have died after rocks fell on them whilst mining.

Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba, in a statement on Thursday said the accident happened around 01: 00 hours at Luano open pit.

Lucky Mutale 20 and Joseph Musonda 30, died after rocks fell on them whilst conducting illegal mining activities.

Brief facts were that on Tuesday around 18:00 hours the victims went with other colleagues to mine the Copper Ore OB 18 Luano open pit.

The two were buried by the rocks which fell on them and their colleagues managed to retrieve them and took them to Nchanga North General hospital where they were certified dead and further deposited in the mortuary.
