Activist Miti supports lifestyle audit for Hichilema’s ‘kitchen cabinet’, says Minister Masebo ought to be sacked

Human Rights activist, Laura Miti, has backed calls for President Hakainde Hichilema to conduct lifestyle audits for everyone close to him to avoid speculations.

Miti, the Executive Director of the Alliance for Community Action (ACA), emphasized the need for a significant clean-up within the current government.

In a Facebook post, Miti argued that President Hichilema had the power to conduct these audits and should do so to dispel any doubts.

Miti questioned the rationale behind recent Cabinet reshuffles, such as the transfer of Health Minister Sylvia Masebo to the Lands Ministry.

“What is the thinking behind keeping Ms. Masebo, if it’s not that the President finds her politically untouchable?” she asked.

Miti noted that there were individuals even closer to the President than ministers who had been the subject of serious allegations for years.

Miti wondered if the President was aware of the rumors about some of his advisors’ involvement in corruption.

“Take his recent decision to transfer, rather than fire, Minister Sylvia Masebo, under whom troubling levels of alleged corruption in medical supplies took place.

She was moved to Lands, another ministry that was a magnet for corruption,” Miti stated.

Miti suggested that President Hichilema might be mistakenly believing that certain individuals are politically essential for his survival in office.

She compared this to former, President Edgar Lungu, who believed that retaining cadres was necessary to maintain his hold on power, despite their negative and destructive influence.
