The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has reportedly disbursed K16.8 million in empowerment grants under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to 717 cooperatives across all seven constituencies in Lusaka.

LCC Assistant Public Relations Officer, Nyambe Bulumba, said the funds aim to support the growth of business and community-based initiatives, contributing to job creation and economic development in the capital.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Bulumba said each constituency received K2.4 million, with Kanyama Constituency recording the highest number of beneficiaries at 152 cooperatives.

Kanyama was followed by Mandevu with 133 cooperatives, Chawama with 107, Munali with 93, Kabwata with 87, Matero with 82, and Lusaka Central with 63.

“This funding underscores the Government’s commitment to addressing critical challenges such as unemployment and lack of capital among women and youth in Lusaka and beyond,” he said.

Bulumba noted that the empowerment grants were designed to unlock community potential by fostering sustainable businesses, generating employment, and stimulating local economic growth.

To ensure accountability, LCC will enforce strict supervision and monitoring mechanisms to guarantee that the funds are used effectively.

“We urge all beneficiary cooperatives to utilize the grants wisely to maximize business success and contribute to both personal and national development,” Bulumba said.

He also encouraged young people to actively engage in various CDF programs, using them as a platform to transform their livelihoods and become key players in Lusaka’s economic progress.
