Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga, has emphasised the significant role played by the Church in Zambia’s national development.
Mulenga acknowledged efforts by the Church in supplementing government’s initiatives, particularly in addressing the energy crisis through various projects.
He noted this during a courtesy call on United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Synod Bishop Rev. Festus Chulu, as indicated in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Principal Public Relations Officer, Everness Nankala.
The Minister expressed appreciation of the ‘Church’s active role in national development and assured Bishop Chulu that the government was committed to collaborating with the Church in areas of mutual interest.”
The Minister also extended greetings from President Hakainde Hichilema.
He also informed the Bishop about grant and loan facilities available under a Ministry-led project focused on value addition, encouraging the Church to take advantage of these opportunities, especially in agriculture.
The Minister reiterated government’s commitment to working with faith-based institutions to foster economic development and social progress.
In response, Chulu welcomed the Minister’s delegation and emphasized the Church’s commitment to collaborating with the government in areas such as education, economic empowerment, and community development.
The meeting may have demonstrated the government’s willingness to engage with faith-based institutions to drive national development and promote investment, industrialization, and economic diversification.
