In bemba we say “Imiti ekula epanga”, this clearly resonate strongly with the statement indicating that we should cash them young.

The above expression could simply mean that our future’s expectations of our young people whom we should strive to see grow in responsible manner with sound quality education coupled with good moral standing.

I would like to urge the central government through the ministry of youth, child and sports to prioritise strategic fundamental plans, and should further work on some tactical implementation methods by engaging various youth development programmes catering across from wards, constituencies, provincial up to the national level and beyond.

The young population in Zambia presents with such a huge and significant portion in numbers with dominant factors seen in the larger component in their respective demographic dividend share hence the key stakeholders urgently need to work out some models, with the main overriding policy objectives specifically aimed at improving the well-being and full scale participations of the young people in this country.

Understandably that the government of the republic of Zambia has a lot in stock for the development of youths based on the established ministry and this alone mainly shows in increments of education support structures hence the free education that today we are witnessing, aims to increase chances of employable opportunities amongst the youths.

As we remember this special and important day tomorrow, the commemoration of International Youth Day (IYD) poises as a dressing window to the young demographic segment to be intentional with skills in business and investment, leadership and governance as well as upholding of values and traditional accustomed with this nation and Africa at large.

However, it is justifiable to recognize of the importance youths play in the society and can also play in the country’s developmental patterns and perspectives.

Policy operatives on youth development should directly be aligned with few changes that we keep on observations, as the government through members representation in parliament needs to keep reviewing certain key essential policy changes so that the national youth delivery process, should also take keen interests on enhancing of Youth Development Policy and the youth should always get a cabinet ministry position, which should then offer more guidance and drive substantial efforts to develop in key youth areas of interests.

As we celebrate tomorrow 12th March, 2025, we are well informed and very much cognizant that United Nations work to balance up a number of things, with the aim of drawing attention to a given set of totally new ways we can bring about cultural importance and legal issues surrounding human rights and economic value of this special section of our population.

The energetic prowness inherent in our young people demonstrates the synergy required to run productive elements of our local economy.

It is my pleasure once again that I write with expectations of the policy framework bordering on youths need to be subjected to some levels of reviews in order to find the best suited way of implementing youth programs across the length of this nation.

And this further underscores a critical achievement agenda towards its goals, which also goes to strengthen the participation of young people in nation building through established agencies and network.
