The Chilanga Town Council has temporarily closed Hungry Lion Chilanga after health inspections revealed faecal contamination in the water used for food preparation.

According to a statement issued on Monday, the closure followed a public health inspection conducted in February 2025.

Samples of food and water collected from the outlet were analyzed by the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Food and Drugs Laboratory, confirming contamination.

“The samples also revealed the presence of Staphylococcus aureus in cooked chicken, indicating bacterial contamination,” the statement read.

In response, the local authority ordered the outlet to remain closed until a proper water treatment system is installed.

“The outlet shall remain closed until the safety of the water is confirmed through further laboratory testing,” the statement added.

The council urged the public to take note of the closure, assuring that necessary measures were being enforced to protect consumers.
