Former Zambia Army Commander, General Isaac Chisuzi, has died.
Chisuzi passed away in the early hours of Monday, March 10, 2025, at Maina Soko Medical Centre in Lusaka after a brief illness.
Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele confirmed his passing in a statement issued by Zambia Army Spokesperson, Sydney Mwewa.
Here are seven facts about Chisuzi you may not know:
1. General Chisuzi served as the Army Commander from 24 January, 2002 to 04 April, 2010 making him the longest general to serve as Army Commander.
2. General Chisuzi was the only Army Commander to serve as a Four Star General.
3. He joined the Army in 1972 during the first intake of locally trained Officers and was commissioned as an Officer in the Zambia Army on 28 July, 1972.
4. He was trained as an Officer Cadet at the School of Military Training (SMT), now Zambia Military Academy in Kabwe, and was commissioned as an Officer in the Zambia Army on July 28, 1972.
5. In recognition of his profession and contribution to the Defence Force, the Bangladesh Defence Force inducted General Chisuzi in the Mirpur Hall of Fame.

6. This was at a colourful ceremony which was held on August 25, 2022 at Bangladesh Defence Services Command and Staff College in Dhaka.
7. General Chisuzi’s death comes almost year after that of his wife who died on March 14, 2024.
“The Zambia Army will remember General Chisuzi as an accomplished, professional General who immensely contributed to the modernization and development of the Zambia Army,” Zyeele said.
