The Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has commenced nationwide sensitisation activities in preparation for the launch of a new family of Zambian currency on March 31, 2025.

In the Copperbelt region, for example, the activities have included meetings with the Ndola City Council management team, with Town Clerk George Mulenga in attendance.

As part of the outreach efforts, BoZ staff visited Main Masala Market, Lubuto Market, and Kabushi Market in Ndola, and also participated in the Zambia Police Day celebrations.

According to BoZ’s official Facebook page, the nationwide sensitisation was aimed at familiarising the public with the new currency family ahead of its release.

The introduction of the new currency family was in line with Section 17(1) of the Bank of Zambia Act, 2022.

The new family will consist of six banknotes (K500, K200, K100, K50, K20, and K10) and six coins (K5, K2, K1, 50N, 10N, and 5N). The new notes and coins will circulate alongside the current currency for 12 months after the launch.
