The love between Zambia and Zimbabwe is inseparable, says Zimbabwean High Commissioner to Zambia, Charity Charamba, as she preaches unity for both countries.
Charamba said Zimbabwe held its relationship with Zambia dearly because of various bilateral collaboration including Zambia’s role in her country’s fight against colonialism to attain independence in 1980.
She added that Zimbabwe would forever remain grateful to Zambia for the sacrifices made to help in the liberation struggle.
Charamba was speaking at the 47th memorial of the March 6 to 19, 2025 Kavalamanja-Kakaro unprovoked atrocities by Ian Smith in Luangwa where Zambian soldiers, civilians and Zimbabwean freedom fighters perished.
“We share a strong bond of brotherhood and His Excellency our President Emerson Munangagwa wants our relations to remain excellent and cooperate in different areas through the Joint Permanent Commission Cooperation (JCCP) and the Joint Permanent Commission of Defence and Security (JPCDS). His Excellency President Munangagwa is desirous that our relations remain excellent at all levels,” she said.
She stated that relations between Zambia and Zimbabwe had evolved over the years and that her country recognised Zambia as an important player due to the role played during the liberation struggle and other areas of cooperation since then.
“As Zimbabwe, we are forever grateful to Zambia for suffering the brunt during the struggle for our emancipation from the shackles of colonialism. Such strong bonds of brotherhood are the strength that ties us together as two sister republics till today and this cooperation is a symbol of unity,” the Zimbabwean envoy remarked.
Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Minister, Sheal Mulyata , who graced the annual memorial event said Zambia’s foreign policy remained firm on treating all countries equal and important.
She said Zambia and Zimbabwe experienced warm relations and that it was the reason Zambia sacrificed to help Zimbabwe in its liberation struggle with some battles being fought on Zambian soil such as Kavalamanja and Kakaro villages in Luangwa.
Mulyata said, therefore, relations between Zambia and Zimbabwe should be guarded jealously.
