Republican Progressive Party (RPP) president, Leslie Chikuse, has urged Zambians to actively engage with the government in addressing national challenges and fostering development.

Speaking to Zambia Monitor on the UPND-led administration’s achievements and challenges since the 2021 elections, Chikuse emphasized need for unity and collaboration in driving Zambia’s progress.

He commended the government for key initiatives such as free education, debt restructuring, and mass recruitment in health, education, and security.

He noted that while these measures came at a significant cost, they were crucial for national development.

Chikuse also pointed to ongoing challenges, including the underutilization of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and instances of corruption.

However, he praised government’s evidence-based approach to fighting corruption, saying it ensures fairness by targeting individuals from both the ruling party and the opposition.

Chikuse urged citizens to move beyond criticism and take advantage of government initiatives like the increased CDF, calling for sensitization programs to help communities utilize funds effectively through cooperatives and local projects.

“Let us not just sit and complain on social media,” Chikuse said. “Let us work together to add value. The government is making efforts to curb the cost of living and improve production, but we must also play our part.”

He further stressed the importance of national unity, warning against tribalism and divisive rhetoric. He reassured Zambians that the UPND government remained committed to protecting all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, while tackling corruption and inefficiencies in public service.

“We are One Zambia, One Nation. “Let us support the government in its efforts to improve our lives. Challenges will always exist, but with unity and collaboration, we can overcome them,” Chikuse said.

Addressing concerns over the recently announced new currency denominations, including the K500 note, Chikuse clarified that the move aimed to enhance financial security and efficiency.

He reassured the public that the currency denomination change did not reflect economic instability but rather an adaptation to evolving financial demands.
