Gabonese President, Brigadier General Brice Nguema, has called for the establishment of a legal framework to enhance economic cooperation between Zambia and Gabon, citing the untapped potential in sectors such as energy, agriculture, mining, and tourism.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Zambian Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), President Nguema acknowledged the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries and emphasized the need to strengthen trade and investment ties.

He made the remarks on Tuesday when Zambia’s Ambassador to the DRC, Paulu Kosita, who is also accredited to Gabon, presented his Letters of Credence.

“My government’s desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Zambia is also evidenced by my directive to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to expedite the accreditation of the Zambian Ambassador to Gabon,” Nguema stated.

The Gabonese leader also fondly recalled Zambia’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations victory, which was celebrated in Gabon, and noted the strong emotional connection between the two nations.

President Nguema further invited Ambassador Kosita to visit the Nkok Special Investment Zone, encouraging Zambian investors to explore business opportunities and forge mutually beneficial partnerships.

In response, Kosita conveyed President Hakainde Hichilema’s fraternal greetings to President Nguema and congratulated him for steering Gabon through the transitional period leading to the upcoming April 12, 2025, presidential elections.

He echoed President Hichilema’s vision for enhanced Zambia-Gabon relations, aligning with Zambia’s Economic Diplomacy agenda to drive sustainable development and prosperity.

Earlier, Kosita met with Gabonese Foreign Minister Michel Ndiaye, where they exchanged views on deepening bilateral cooperation.

Following his accreditation, the ambassador visited the 1993 Zambia National Football Team crash site in Gabon to pay his respects to the fallen heroes.
