The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has heard that US$11,000 in counterfeit United States (US) dollars was discovered in a vehicle driven by former Kasama MP, Kelvin Sampa.
Detective Inspector Patron Kajimoto testified that on October 4, 2024, he was assigned to search the impounded vehicle.

During the search, he found 16 bundles of fake cash in a laptop bag and a safe containing 33 more bundles of counterfeit American currency.
He revealed that 98 of the $100 notes bore the same serial number, while 11 had no serial numbers at all, bringing the total to $11,000 in fake currency.
Kajimoto also discovered 7,622 plain light green leaves, along with 13 more leaves inside the bag.
During cross-examination, he admitted he was unaware of how the vehicle ended up at headquarters.
Sampa is accused of defrauding two Japanese businessmen in a failed gold deal.
He faces charges of illegal possession of forged banknotes, theft by agent, and possession of materials used for forgery.
