The Ministry of Technology and Science has signed agreements with the Furrer Foundation and Mutinta Jewellery Company to promote local mineral beneficiation and skills development.
Technology and Science Minister, Felix Mutati, said the agreements reflected the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging partnerships for job creation, industrialization, and economic transformation.
Speaking at the signing ceremony at Mutinta Jewellery in Lusaka on Thursday, Mutati described the initiative as a strategic move to equip young Zambians with hands-on skills and business acumen.
“It is a unique day as we witness the transformation of youth by adding value to the gift of God—our mineral wealth,” Mutati said.
He claimed the agreements would reduce unemployment, improve rural livelihoods, and promote self-sufficiency, with a strong focus on apprenticeship-based learning.
Mutati further stated that the collaboration with the Furrer Foundation would support the establishment of two vocational training institutions—the Zambia Entrepreneurship College and the Zambia Entrepreneurs Park in Rufunsa District.
He emphasized that these institutions aligned with the Ministry’s vision of integrating entrepreneurship into technical and vocational education.
“This partnership complements ongoing efforts under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) by strengthening skills training infrastructure and expanding access to vocational education,” Mutati said.
Meanwhile, Furrer Foundation and Mutinta Jewellery Company Chairpersons Matthew Furrer and Msafiri Sinkala reportedly assured the Minister of their commitment to supporting government efforts in skills development and value addition.
