Ex-president Lungu’s daughter, Tasila, arrested, released on bond over K8.8 million ranch; faces money laundering charges

Zambia’s former president, Edgar Lungu’s daughter, Tasila has been formally charged and arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

The arrest of Tasila was connected to two offenses namely possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and money laundering.

The alleged crimes took place between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2022, in Sinda, Eastern Province, where Tasila possessed real estate property, namely Kumawa Ranch, valued at approximately K8,840,098.

Tasila’s arrest follows a long-running legal battle surrounding the farm, which was previously ordered to be forfeited to the state by the Economic and Financial Crimes Court in September 2024.

However, the Court of Appeal granted a stay of execution in January 2025, allowing Tasila to retain possession of the farm pending the outcome of her appeal.

The Chawama lawmaker has since been released on police bond and was expected to appear in court soon, according to DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba.

“The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), today Tuesday, February, 11, 2025, has formally charged and arrested Tasila Lungu Mwansa, a Member of Parliament for Chawama Constituency,” Tamba said.

He assured that during all the ongoing investigations, the Commission remains resolute and committed to ensuring the professional discharge of its mandate as by law provided.

“Furthermore, we wish to thank members of the general public for their cooperation and hereby urge all citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities to the Commission so that by acting together, we can prevent, detect and combat all forms of crime,” Tamba said.
