Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Jack Mwiimbu, has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema will travel to Tanzania to participate in the Joint Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State and Government.
The Summit is scheduled for February 8, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
It will be co-chaired by Zimbabwean President Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, as Chair of SADC, and Kenyan President Dr. William Ruto, as Chair of the EAC.
The Summit would focus on fostering a resolution to the security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“The Summit is a follow-up to the outcomes of the Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government,” Mwiimbu stated in a release issued in Lusaka on Friday.
He added that the SADC Extraordinary Summit took place in Zimbabwe on January 31, 2025, and the 24th Extraordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State occurred on January 29, 2025.
“President Hichilema remains fully committed to collaborating with fellow leaders to ensure peace, security, and stability in the Eastern DRC,” Mwiimbu affirmed.
The President is expected to return to Zambia immediately after the Summit’s conclusion.
