PF stalwart, Mwamba, under pressure as Lusaka court issues second arrest warrant over 2023 charges

The pressure is mounting on Emmanuel Mwamba, the Patriotic Front chairperson for Information and Publicity, as the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has issued a second bench warrant for his arrest.

Just one day after Magistrate Amy Masoja warned Mwamba to appear in court on February 26, Resident Magistrate Trevor Kasanda issued another bench warrant against him on Thursday.

This dramatic development followed Mwamba’s failure to attend court on both Wednesday and Thursday, citing illness and his current stay in the United States.

However, Mwamba’s absence and the explanation provided by his surety, Mufulira Central MP Golden Mwila, were not convincing enough for the court.

Mwila claimed that Mwamba was unable to travel due to a dislocated shoulder, but he could not provide any medical evidence to support this claim.

Magistrate Kasanda was firm, dismissing the excuse as unsatisfactory, especially in the absence of any medical documentation.

Mwamba is facing a charge of assault on a police officer related to an incident involving Detective Inspector Simwenda Steven in June 2023.
